Fungjai is a Thai music app with local and international tracks, offline downloads, playlists, artist follows, and live radio. I led a redesign to make the app easier and more social. The key feature is Fung With U: a live experience with real‑time audio and live chat so fans can connect with DJs, share moments, and discover music together.

Background

We mapped the current app's user journey. We recognized that the app mostly focus on music, we needed to make Fungjai more accessible and community-oriented than ever before. Our goal is to build long-term stickiness by turning Fungjai into a community, where listeners, DJs, and friends connect

Competitor Analysis

We reviewed direct and indirect competitors in Thailand and abroad, especially Chinese and Korean apps. Many apps push community inside music apps. From this, we defined Fungjai’s direction as a Social Music Platform and listed the common social components we could adapt to fit our brand and users.

We positioned Fungjai as a Social Music Platform. Growth rests on two pillars:

  1. Music Streaming 🎵 — Our base, strong in indie

  2. Fung With U (Live DJ) 🎙️ — Live Chat & Real‑time Audio Streaming

Concept Testing

Because Live DJ was already launched, we tested improvements with real users in‑app: DJs (UGC & PGC)audience who attend live shows, and music listeners who are new to live.

Objective

Reposition Fungjai as a social music platform and figure how we can turn first-time listeners into community members, by learning what attracts new users, what keep existing users loyal, what we do well and what to improve.

Low-fi

Then, we turned the “social music” idea into screens. Test with colleagues to validate flows and gather fast, feedback and fix it before real-user testing.

High-fi

Test with real users, by using clickable prototype end-to-end, following a normal user journey


Interview Script

After setting objectives & target groups, we wrote interview script to test the end-to-end social music concept with real users (listeners, audio audience, DJs, new indie/non-indie). We first collected their background (music interests, habits, discovery channels), then walked them through the app journey (onboarding → home → Live DJ → chat → donate) and captured feedback throughout.

Interview + Analysis

We interviewed 6 target groups to see how people find, join, chat, return, and support in Live DJ.

We also got basic app data, when DJs go live (day/time and length), how many people join (peak/concurrent), average vs unique listeners per session/DJ, and simple repeat rates. This showed which time slots and DJ style people like, so we know where to focus next.

Based on user feedback, we refined the flow end-to-end so new people see the value fast, and build habit.

Onboarding & Home Entry

Added a welcome that show recognizable artists and indie names, so people know Fungjai has mainstream songs too. The third screen highlights the new Fung With U (Live DJ) feature.

After onboarding, user picks favorite artists/songs so we can build personalized mixes. We also offer an optional “find friends” step, suggesting friends to follow. The Home screen recommends Mix for YouNew to Indie, and Top 20 to get them listening right away

After the tutorial, we give a small free coin (mushroom) so users can try donating once.

Notification

Users don’t miss live shows, new releases, or friend/DJ updates. Reminders link straight into the room or songs.
